Within the scope of the Climate Governance Initiative (CGI), which was established to accelerate the “net zero transition process” under the leadership of the boards of directors with the initiative of the World Economic Forum, the “Chapter Zero Türkiye” platform started its activities with the support of EBRD and hosted by TÜSİAD. As BDA, we are taking part in the process as a strategic partner of the initiative that we contributed to the agenda. Chapter Zero Türkiye is a climate initiative that aims to promote responsible business and sustainable development standards among business leaders and decision makers.
Objective;
- To improve the awareness of boards of directors on climate change and their understanding of the risks and opportunities arising from climate change,
- To develop the competences, skills and know-how of the audit and management boards of companies in Türkiye to start addressing and combating climate change from a corporate sustainability perspective and to make climate change a board priority,
- It is to act according to the risks and opportunities arising from climate change and at the same time ensure the long-term resilience and success of businesses.
In Chapter Zero Türkiye initiative, which aims to guide organisations on their “net-zero” journey under the global consultancy of Deloitte, BDA’s representative Mehmet Sami – Chairperson, became a member of the Steering Committee. Our Board Member Şevki Acuner, who brought the issue to the agenda of BDA, took part in the same Committee with the title of “NED” (Non-Executive Director / Independent Board Member).
As “Net-Zero” Ambassadors to raise awareness on climate issues in Türkiye, Committee members will have duties such as following current developments and evaluating the necessary guidelines, developing content and speaker suggestions for events and meetings to be organised and deciding on all activities of the Committee.
